FAQ 7: Should I consider manual therapy following a vehicle collision or other impact accident?  How about following a surgery or any other kind of injury?

Yes, definitely, for any trauma.  Call me as soon as possible after any kind of illness, injury or surgery.  Degenerative structural changes and functional limitations may follow trauma if medical care is the only intervention you receive.  Manual therapy helps restore structure and function even after years have passed.  However, immediately following trauma, it can help relieve discomfort while also helping you function better and avoid longer-term issues.

Continuation:

Clients consistently report manual therapy immediately following an impact or accident helps relieve pain, reduces long term degeneration and suffering, and restores mobility that might otherwise be lost.

The condition sometimes diagnosed as whiplash is a good example.  Manual therapy often significantly relieves long-term neck and shoulder issues or post surgical effects -- sometimes even leading to dramatic reduction of pain and discomfort.  Without manual therapy within 2 or 3 days after an accident, a neck injury can turn into a lasting degenerative condition that can lead to years of suffering.

The same is true for many other kinds of trauma resulting from surgeries, injuries, or accidents.  It's best to contact me immediately and consider manual therapy as part of your recovery process.  As soon as you can receive work comfortably and your physician has released you, we can begin.
